LYNDHURST JESSICA
Cannonridge Jackdaw X Lyndhurst Webster's Song
August 1997 - August 2003
english import

                                                         Lyndhurst Jessica
what a beautiful girl she was

Although she only had one litter for us, Jessica has proven thru her daughter and grandchildren to be a 'lasting force' here at Ynda/Shenandoah.  Her mark on our line is unmistakable.  As a youngster, she never really seemed to catch on with the judges, this doggy bitch was a perennial placer, rarely a winner.  So we kept her home.  You had to visit Shenandoah to meet her.

Lyndhurst Jessica's only producing offspring is
Ynda's Midsumr-Knights-Dream  "June" , ROM

And her only grandchildren, June's only puppies:
Multi-BIS/BISS GRCH Ynda's I Have A Dream  'Martin'
RBIS GRCH Ynda's Impossible Dream  'Imp'
RBIS GRCH Ynda-N-Colton's Patron-Saint  'St John'

But WHAT a legacy this is !!!

Jessie was a clown, a fun loving girl who was very substantive, with lots and lots of that Webster/Jackdaw coat, another avid water and land retriever, a gentle, loving and easy going spirit.

She had a difficult first pregnancy, a more difficult labor and delivery, and she was overwhelmed by motherhood -- who wouldn't be with 11 pups the first time?  So we bred her only once, to Multi-BISS CH Blackdux Knight Moves, JH.  This proved to be a lucky 'click' of the genes -- he is line-bred on Black Arrogance and she is line bred on Charway Ballywillwill.  The result was a litter of striking pups.

It's to Jessica that we owe that awesome tail we have in our line, seen in June and in Martin and on John.  We owe her the wonderful coat we get, that generous piled up coat you can see on June and John and Irene and Imp and Ian and Ella and Jeannie ...  It's also thru Jessica and Jasmine's grand-dam, Zany's PennyLane at Cannonridge, that we owe the beautiful 'face' we get on some of our girls -- that 'question mark pretty look' with the wrinkled brow and higher ear set.  Jessica has also passed on her very 'soft' mouth, a treasure in good retrievers.  She has passed on beautiful, sparkling full sets of teeth, and a delicious sense of humor.  A dog who often 'swam for pleasure' Jessica's love of the water has passed directly to her children and grand-children.

We had believed Jessie's look to be lost to us, but as she matured, our darling Ella -- Jasmine's daughter by Martin -- looked more and more like her aunt/great-grandmother Jessica.  What a treasure to find her again!  Jessie did return to us in Ella -- Jasmine, Jessica's litter sister, was pregnant with Jessica's great-grandchildren, including Ella, when Jessie died.  Somehow Jessie transferred herself into the pup who was born only weeks after her death.  Ella is Miss Jessie reincarnated.  We treasure her all the more for being so like her aunt/great-grandmama.

Jessie was the favored pet in the kennel, all the other dog's first choice of playmates, room-mates and companions.  Hugo adored her and they were most often seen together, the 'Odd Couple' of the kennel.  Her grandchildren worshiped her and begged for her to be let out to play with them.  Jessie was our 'pick up dog' who never missed a mark, always retrieved whatever anyone else had missed, ready to 'find the bird' on land or water by whistle or hand direction, a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful girl whom we cherished.  In the house, her favorite jobs were helping with cooking, helping with dishes, making sure all the shoes were in the den by the door, and absolutely not letting anyone steal the couch !  Jessie, what a blessing you were to us.  Her favorite thing of all was to hear 'her song' for which I always got kisses and wags galore.

 "Jessie's Song" :
Jessica, Miss Jessie girl, Jessica, so true.
Jessica, Miss Jessie Girl;  Jessie, We Love You.

Our beloved Jessie Girl was lost to us  August 18, 2003.

We believe Jessie contracted a tick-borne disease that effected her kidneys ... when she tried to find her way home from our church secretary's home where she was temporarily staying to help her grieve thru the death of her son.

Jessica is buried next to Huckleberry, closest to the pond where she loved to swim and roam. Go in peace, sweet Jessie.  We will long miss you....Even more sadly, she was joined only 10 days later by her dearly beloved Hugo, our Siberian Champion, the other half of our Odd Couple.  Hugo died of hemangiosarcoma, showing no signs of illness until the day he died. They are buried together, and we hope they romp as happily together at the Rainbow Bridge as they did here at our pond.
