 | Marti successfully trained and mushed her Siberian
Huskies in the 1980's, and trained lead dogs for herself and other mushers. |

1969. Many of those dogs have hunted successfully with him for upland
birds. |

his dogs, earning the C.D. together. |
 | Andy has tested his dogs in the field, earning
several Working Certificates on his labs. |
 | We train dogs who want to work with you, in
partnership with you. |
 | We do not use shock collars in training. |
 | Sorry, we do not take in other people's dogs for
training. |
Training at Ynda begins AT BIRTH and continues until a
dog leaves. We pour time into our puppies so that they have the absolute
best foundation possible for their future lives.
What you can expect a Ynda Puppy will know at 8
weeks:
- Puppy will know to respond when you call it 'Puppy.'
- Puppy will know the command to eliminate.
We use 'Park'
- Puppy will know the command to come. We use
'Come.'
- Puppy will be 'housebroken' to go 'outside' thru
a doggie door and eliminate 'outside.'
- Puppy will also be able to continue using papers
or chips for training if you need this.
- Puppy will be content to sleep in a crate.
- Puppy will be introduced to 'no bite' and 'no
teeth'.
- Puppy will be used to wearing a collar all the
time.
- Puppy will be introduced to walking on a leash.
- Puppy will be introduced to a myriad of noises,
smells, and surfaces to build its confidence throughout its lifetime.
- Puppy will be introduced to 'sit.'
- Puppy will be introduced to water.
- All puppies are temperament tested at 7 weeks of
age. Written results are available.
- All puppies are born in our home and raised for
the first weeks of life in our kitchen. When they grow out of the
whelping box, they graduate to the nursery.
- The nursery has many toys and environment
enriching activities, a grassy play area with puppy obstacles for climbing
and adventuring, music and adult dog company. Each of us supervises
and interacts personally with the pups in the nursery at least 4 hours per
day.
- All puppies are handled extensively throughout
their weeks with us. They are introduced to people of all ages and
ethnic backgrounds.
- Puppies are comfortable/ at ease with large adult dogs of another breed.
We want them to be able to socialize and bond with dogs of all types.
There is a real magic between our Ridgebacks and the Labrador puppies.
Adult dogs and older puppies at Ynda can be expected
to know:
- Excellent leash training, including not to pull
on a show leash.
- Show 'stacking' by hand and 'free stacking.'
- Basic commands: Come, wait, sit, stay, walk with
me, quiet, leave it, give it, bring it, go for it, walking up and down
carpeted stairs, show me your teeth, going over by a stranger, waiting with
a stranger.
- Many know advanced commands: Down, go over it,
hand and arm directed retrieves -- go back, search right, search left.
- Many are excellent swimmers.
- All are introduced to birds.
